Kaliber Inter County Dart Championships October 8th & 9th 2005

County Durham V Nottinghamshire

Well another month of Kaliber Inter County matches goes by and Notts slip on yet another banana skin.
How many Banana skins are there out there.

Nottinghamshire traveled to Co. Durham where this started off all peach and rosy with Notts Ladies 'B' earning a draw of 3-3 yet again showing that they are not just pretty faces but can actually play good darts.
This was followed by a loss of 8-4 for the men's 'B' who looked decidedly tired from the long day traveling that they had endured. Newark’s own Mickey Pitchford was the only Newark player to play on the Saturday and won his match 3-2 which should have been 3-0 if he hadn’t missed his doubles.

This looked like another weekend when all was going to go wrong and after a night out in Newcastle and Sunday morning arrived the General Secretary, Dave Vanderson had been up half the night after eating a dodgy Chinese looking for Huey in the toilet, (what’s that all about) it was realized that some 'A' team players had called in sick.

I thought that this only happened on a Monday morning. well we drafted in a couple of 'B' team players and got started with the Ladies 'A' who got off to a good start winning the 1st and 3rd legs only for another Banana skin to be thrown at us. Finally going down 4-2 after some good darts from the Durham Ladies. Newark’s Kelly Stevens won yet another match award with a hard fought 3-2 win against one of Durham’s best ladies, on paper.

We thought it can't get any worse after that and boy was I wrong with the men losing 9-3 with players losing on 28 and 27 averages due to missed doubles.
One of the matches of the day saw Mickey Pitchford who was drafted in from the Saturday team to play in the ‘A’ team miss out only on the Bull when attempting to win the match with a 126 checkout and finally lost 3-2 to a player who had a 30.29 average.

Congratulations go to Durham who hosted the encounter with great friendship and an atmosphere to be proud of. Well done to them on their Victory and I only hope that Notts Buck up and start at least practicing their doubles.
If we could hit a few doubles then we would be a hard side to beat but as it is we seem to be in a rut and have to find someway of getting out of the losing habit. QUICKLY. Anyone got a spade
.
