COMPETITION RESULTS 3

The First Canley Open
a big success

Seventy one entrants made up the total for the 1st Canley Open, With many from the local area of Coventry.
Amongst the favourites for the title were Kevin Dowling, Tony Brown and from Wales Steve Alker and Ian Cullingworth. Also making a return to darts was Colin Fowler.

Dowling once again took a bad fiirst draw when paired against Mick Savvery of Gwent who is featuring heavy on the PDC circuit at present. Kevin wasted no time in despatching Mick out with three straight legs 17,14,13.
Brown had to face local Youth star Mark Carter and it was Mark who saw the finish line.
Pete Allen had quietly got through his first few rounds fairly easily and then faced Neil Pritchard in the last 16, who had beat County A player Dave Honey by three legs to two in the previous round, but this time no mistakes and a 3-0 score to Allen.

In the semis Pete Allen faced up to Steve Alker and came within a whisker of a 9 darter with 180,180,60-45- and just outside but took it in two for an 11. Allen needed 141 once again to reach the final and again just wired the double to allow Alker in and into the final.

2nd Semi Ian Cullingworth (Clywd) faced Mark Jones (Worcester) and in the decider Ian had three darts to seal it but failed each time and Jones took full advantage and sealed his final place.

Many thought the experience of Alker would see him home easily but Jones had come through a tough half of the draw and again it was Jones who took the honours winning 6-3 in the final to collect the 1st prize of £500.

Many thanks on the day go to John and Tina Palmer of the Canley Club for sponsoring the event, also Dennis Stokes and Brian Johnson for running the event along with Linda Howe.

There will be another CANLEY OPEN next year and there will a Turkey shoot in late November. For more details ring Dennis Stokes 07879655093 or Brian Johnson on 07956690959.
